Braine-l'Alleud, an attractive town of Walloon Brabant, located in the garden of Brussels
Braine-l’Alleud is situated in Walloon Brabant, in the Hain Valley, at about twenty kilometres from Brussels.
The most important town of the province as far as its population is concerned, Braine-l’Alleud has over 38,000 inhabitants, whose half of them is less than forty years old, and covers an area of 5,199 ha.
Since the merger of towns that took place January, 1st 1977, it groups together the entities of Braine-l’Alleud, Ophain-Bois-Seigneur-Isaac and Lillois-Witterzee.
The undeniable and constant growing attractiveness of the town certainly comes from its enviable geografical position: situated in Walloon Brabant, in the green area of Brussels, it benefits from an excellent freeway and a fantastic railway network, as well as incontestable advantages of the capital proximity, the heart of the European Union.

Many inhabitants have their job in Braine-l’Alleud, the latter providing many branches of industry.
Kindergarten, primary and secondary schools greet about 10,000 pupils. The infancy facilities are well developed.
More than 500 PME’s (petites et moyennes entreprises) and PMI’s (petites et moyennes industries) create a wealthy and diversified economic fabric, at a high added value.
The hospital, belonging to CHIREC (centre hospitalier interrégional Edith Cavel) constitutes an ultramodern clinic centre.
Many dynamic associations, displaying talents and generosity, host the town making the verbal tradition lie – according to which Braine-l’Alleud is the "dormitory" of Brussels.
Developped by the public power or by other authorities, the cultural, sports and social activities can meet the expectations of each citizen. The music academy, the library, the sports centre of the Gaston Reiff stadium, … are the breeding ground of the town, source of personal blooming and creator of talents.
Commune with European vocation, Braine-l’Alleud is proud of counting among its citizens more than 2,000 residents representing about twenty nationalities, contributing to enrich our cultural and relational web. Moreover, it is in our walls that the actual charity “Europe direct” has been created.
The infatuation of the population to live in Braine-l’Alleud, to settle or to come back, concerns us more and more. Therefore, we would like the communal project to be integrated within the heart of the inhabitants’life, so looking for creating solid links between everyone for a want of "a better world".
